Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Just wanted to say hello introduce myself been following this forum a couple months now and really enjoy what I 've seen so far... This year the fishing bug has really hit hard dusted off the gear organizied the tackle and I've been chasin gills and all panfish with a restored passion of youth on my days off work... Either bank fishing or from my old towne canoe in local lakes in Southern Ohio, old strip minds and nameless streams. My aresnal of panfish poles include a BN&M Blackwidow telesoping pole,St Croix Ultra light 6ft with a Shimano Sedona 500 reel 4lb test Vicsious Panfish Clear, GLoomis Light Action 6"6 with a Shimano Stradic reel with 6lb Triline xl, Shakespeare  Micro lite 5"6 with Shakespeare Sigma 200  reel with 4lb Viscious High Vis Yellow... Use an assortment of ultra light lures and live bait in my tactics.... Look forward to learning sharing information with others an hope everyone has a great fishing season...

Welcome and you'll be looking  forward to a great time here John!

Got a new St. Croix UL Rod myself and its landed a lot of fish .It 's matched with a Pflueger Supreme Reel.

I understand your enthsiasm, I'm in the same boat(HA! get it? fish'n ?boat??...ok sorry) since I started hang'n out around here, bad company they are.

It really gets ya in the mood to go after some gills, I stopped at a tackle store & picked up a few things after work today, its like be'n a kid in a candy store, and now you had to go & mention rod & reels didnt ya ?,,,dog gone it,,,this stuff just never ends does it ??? now I gotta have a dedicated ultra light for gills.  THANX PAL !!!

Welcome John

I'm on the northern part of the state Toledo area. Went south the beginning of the week. Went across the Ohio River have you ever fished it and if so what can one expect. I know there are crappies not sure of anything else. I use all ultra light tackle. I mostly have Pflueger reels with mostly Berkley Lightnig rods. I also have a St Croix UL and a couple Garcia Rods. My favorite being not the most exspensive but the best feeling is the  Berkley rods. My reels are loaded up with Vanish Flourocarbon line 4 and 6 lbs test. I use jigs 1/32 to 1/8 with pearl twister tails or Bobby Garland Tails 2.5" Stroll'r.
