Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

My son caught this one today on BREAD - yeah, plain old white bread.

"You get a lot of bait for $1!" he says. This was only one of the fish caught and many others were missed, according to him.

These come in a lot of different patterns around here. Ive seen reddish ones, yellows, and even an olive one that looked like it was skinned in military digital camo.

Looks like this was a good fighter!  Kids will always remeber something like this.

In this case he's 22 years old, but he'll remember. He said his friend who was with him couldn't understand why I had a foam earplug threaded on the leader above the hook.

"I dunno, but I'm sure he has it on there for a reason." As you might guess, he had taken one of my pre-rigged sliding sinker, Fireball rigs. The foam plug holds the bait up off the bottom.

He asked me to explain it to him later. As it turns out, the other guy thought it was silly - he just fished right on the bottom with split shot. And he didnt catch the fish. My son tells me he caught the most, and the better ones.

He later said, "I told him that my dad reads a lot of old fishing books and is on the internet learning about fishing. He knows a bunch of stuff we've never heard of... looks like he knows a few things!"

He asked me where else they should now go, to try out this trick some more. I suggested that "The Smart Fisherman fishes where the Fish are."

I suppose they'll go back.
