Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Hey guys, I am waiting for cold weather and ice season, but considering that seems like it may be a while in Nebraska, I think I am going to break the float tube back out again. I bought a Humminbird Ice 35 flasher for ice fishing that I want to try to use on my float tube for vertical jigging. Has anyone else done this? Anyone have any tips or suggestions?

Bulk was my main concern as well, but I found on another board someone who just takes the head unit off and puts it in the float tube pocket. That would drastically reduce bulk.

Yes, true.
Well, it sounds like you're working it out.
Photos next, I hope!

With David's thought, yes, that's a heck of a bulky unit to bring with you, even with the facia taken out, and place somewhere. Float Tube Forum has several design specs for different tube, but primarily for fishfinders, not a flasher unit. However, who says you can't have it too? Trick is, to find a balance:

1. Instead of a soft plastic stripping tray in front of you, how about mod the plastic mesh tray for a hard tray? This a nice mod:

2. Head unit removed from main bag, and definitely not mounted on the side pocket. There are way too many things that can go wrong, will go wrong. Murphy's Law. Have the unit mounted on the tray (screwed down), and the battery stored in the back of you, with a bit of water sealed battery line extension. This way, there's a good balance in case, God forbid, the wind send you flying across the nice. The heavy battery will be away from you, and hopefully, the mounted flash don't come off the tray and give you a concussion. You still have two pockets to use to store all your gears.
