Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Do Fall season Bluegills come into the shallows or do I have to go deep? I don't have a boat, canoe, etc. I'll be flinging flies from shore. I'd like to fish for a dinner.

Yes, until the water temp drops. Fall is a big feeding time for fish in preparation for winter.
Watch for temps in the mid follow 60's to mark the move to deeper patterns. Until then, they will be in the shallows later and longer during the day.
Fish cover and structure, as always.
Mid to low 60's, I meant.

I caught some yesterday maybe 10-12 feet from shore in about 4 feet of water. My problem has not been the depth of the fish, but all of the milfoil and hydrilla choking the normal Bluegill hangouts in shallower water. By the time the grasses die off the fish will have moved to areas of the lake I can't reach.

I like to fish from the bank also.  I get my best bluegill and a shell cracker, now and then, from casting near the limit of my tackle.  I use beetle spins in the cool weather, light weight so I used light weight line and smooth casting reel or spinning reel.  If using live bait with bobber, I set for 1 to 2 feet off bottom.  Near shore I get the smaller bluegill.
