Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

can anyone suggest some effective cranbaits for gills?   i've a few but am not familiar with all the newer stuff on the market.  i'm well stocked with the smallest rapalas and some crawdad patterns.  thanks.

Thats a serious pile equipment, I reconised a few but what a selection.

What time of the year do you guys use crank baits?

I start using mine as soon as it warms up till late in the fall. My favorite time is post spawn, fishing cover close to the bank much like bass fishing.

like Keith says;; soon as it warms up a little;; till it gets to cold to go out !!

The bitsy minnow and Rapala Floating Minnows are great. The larger fish seem to take the crankbaits a little more than the small ones.

I bought several of the bitsy minows last year never caught a fish on them.

Send them to me Chuck like them. What colors did you try? I've had luck on all I have tried.

Chuck;; you think you might be cranking it in to fast ???  like Keith;; I have caught several on that bitsy minnow;; great lil crankbait !!  of course;; you could send me half; of what you would send to Keith;; LOL

You guys are funny I don't what I did wrong I have 5 different colors of them

Chuck; try this;; make a real long cast;; crank the bait fast; to get it down to desired depth;; then a S L O W retreive !  hold the rod tip; down close to water the whole time ! see if that helps

I will don't fugue I could catch any now never fished this time of the year thanks for the tip

Most of my luck has been casting close to the bank and since these are floater/divers I let it settle and twitch it then if no action I start a slow retrieve and then speed up as the water deepens back towards the boat. I catch a lot of if on the first few feet of the retrieve.
