Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I just recently purchased some berkley gulp white colored maggots from my local bait store to use for some panfishing and i was wondering if anyone has used this bait before and the type of success people have had on it

And they've done nothing for me but go stale in the jar... shiners like them, though.

... yes they do David!

Wow! Tanker golden shiner Slip!

this little lake has some giants... that day they were spawning all around me. i sight fished a few of them. they proved to be really fragile so i left them alone.

They are fragile. They play out fast and expire quickly.

I've used them as a 'backup' bait when I run out of live worms, mealies or maggots. I've done good with them on actively feeding fish during the warm weather. Only complaint I have is that they tend to be quite fragile and it's a 'one and done' maggot per fish ratio. If they were tougher on the hook I'd like that.

Jim... ive noticed product inconsistencies between jars so far only on the maggots... the 1" minnows are like leather compared to the maggot as a whole. i currently inventory 3 colors the beige or creme, pink and chartreuse. the chartreuse jar is very fragile a couple fish at the most and its gone. the pink has been tougher on the hook as well as the beige. multiple fish. pink jar has lasted me one full year and you see how i use the heck out of it.

one of the last little trips i was on i left my maggots at home and only had the chartreuse minnows. i remembered a in-fisherman ice fishing episode where Doug Stange cut up the minnow in sections and tipped his jiggin rap. so i cut up the minnows and put em under the slip bobber and caught fish... it was amazing.

early last summer i was doing great on the night crawlers... bought a worm farm and everything... i haven't really used them  since mid summer 2014... i just keep feeding them and they keep reproducing ... lol... the wife feeds them to the frogs out back with the g'sons

I like them but I like berkley power wigglers better, none of that juice to get everywhere and you can just keep a bag of them in your pocket. I tip jigs with them. Works great for me.

i have better luck with the gulp waxies.a little more durable.i prefer real waxworms but the gulp ones are good to keep in the tackle bag if i get a chance to fish at the last minute

im finding the Waxies are more productive also Jim

... i had to share this
