Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Anyone recommend a good cooler for storing BG on ice for a full day of fishing?

Hey guys,

Do you have a really good cooler you can recommend? I'd prefer something where you have 2 doors that can lift separately, but that feature isn't absolutely necessary if everything else about the cooler is awesome.

Thanks,

-Craig

I use a Coleman 28 qt. cooler. It has a sturdy handle, and it keeps ice well. It is reasonably priced, easy to clean, and can be found at many stores including Walmart. Yeti is another brand that is suppose to keep ice very well, but very pricey in my opinion for a daily fish cooler.

I have Yeti Coolers received as gifts but the Coleman Xtremes are very good for the money.....In the dog days of Summer I use block ice in these Colemans and have no issues....

I sometimes use 1/2 gallon or gallon milk  jugs that I fill most of the way with water then freeze.  Leave a little room at the top of the jug for expansion as the water freezes. These can be washed off at the end of the day, and put back in the freezer for your next fishing trip. Block ice will last longer than cubed or crushed on very hot days.

Good cost cutting measure for sure if you have the freezer space......good advice Vince. I made racks in my chest freezers to hold big plastic containers that make a two gallon block in 24 hours...works like a champ....so good I use it on back to back days occasionally......Bare hands beware when reaching in that cooler!

Bingo, this what I do --fill containers of water. As Vince says, be sure to not fill the container full of water, unless you use hot water. Hot water will not expand as it freezes because it has no oxygen in it.

I also like the Coleman extremes and have a bream size and a flounder size

Coleman does sell a 5 day cooler. Have never tried one but their advertisement says last 5 days.
