Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I have been told that if fishing is a sport then we must be athletes, therefore we are susceptable to injuries related with our sport, I have a minor form of a pre existing condition, it is brought on by years of repetative use and exercising the joint. What is this condition you ask? It is called BLUEGILL ELBOW,  a hidious disease that affects the elbow joint causing pain and swelling. The only known cure is to exercise that elbow  to keep it flexable and not freezing up, and apply liberal amounts of alcohol to the joint from the inside should keep it working properly.  An audiable " Fish On "  also helps to keep your mind off your  injury. Finally a diet of fresh  fried bluegill should put this disease in remission.   This disease should not confused with Bluegill Fever !  which has a different set of symptoms , or spool thumb which shouldn't be confused with "Sharon Thumb" , So be careful out there this year and let me know if you find any more anglers injuries or diseases .       LOFR

Oh LOFR I have experienced this many times on week long fishing sabaticals. Have found YOU must push thru the pain even if you're experiencing Bluegill fever with it. Have found the best cure is a Large pitcher of margaritas and sleeping under the stars after every occurance.

Your LORDSHIP, I always thought it was a nevous twitch in need of therapy!!!!! But I LOVE the sound of NURSE JENS cure!!!!!!

We sleep under the stars all the time, at night we even let the coyotes come up and lick the  BBQ sauce off our faces while we are sleeping, yes Jen has the cure.   LOFR

Be sure to keep casting  L0FR dont let that injury become atrophied!

I have found another Bluegill related Illness.

My wife was the one to descover it. She says I suffer from it every winter,

and have suffered for several years. Now our oldest daughter has been showing sign of

it this winter. My wife has named this illness as Bluegill Depression.

The symtoms start when the weather starts to become cold, and the fish go deep. All

of a sudden you notice your season is over. You go into denial. You tell yourself, it's ok.

You have plenty of fish in the freezer, Spring is just around the corner.

One day you deside to have some fish, This is when you find out. You did not have enough fish

to make it through the winter, spring is still 2 months away. You make a mad dash to your favorit

Bluegill spot, Only to find out the fish have not returned. They are mocking you as you offer

up everything you have to the Bluegill gods. Nothing you do is good enough. When will the madness ever end. You tell yourself it's no big deal.

When you know the entire cosmose is falling apart.

So far the only treatment I have found for Bluegill Depression as there is no cure.

Is to go to the sporting good section or tackle shop every time you go to the store.

Spend large amounts of money on new rods, tackle and other items.

and spend endless amouts of time online looking for support from other who suffer from this

illness. As well as watching others catch fish on youtube.

May all who suffer from this, Keep up the good fight, rest asure spring is almost here and

the Bluegill will return.

Tight Lines my fellow gillers Tight Lines.

The only "therapy" I can come up with during all of the above Bluegill afflictions mentioned, is to pull out my panfish injection molds and shoot some new colors or color combinations  My wife calls this injection pouring "withdrawal prevention" and then seems to go into some sort of prayer chant thing for over an hour.  Oh by the way, if any of you good folks that fish with artificials have a favorite color, let me know and I'll inject some for you.  Call it a "Theraputic Aid."  You can e-mail me at ultralite31907@yahoo.com. Nick

We're still suffering from BUTT FREEZE in eastern OHIO....  Just started getting nice out so I  Got the poles ready and now they're talking SNOW this Weekend.....OK say it, I'm a fair weather fishman!!!!

I've given up beer for Lent, but will continue internal application of fine home-roasted coffee as a preventative measure :)

I gave up beer, well I lent them to a friend, Keeping the MARGARITAS!!!!!!!!!!

there also the dreaded castitis

for fly fishing fever, I usually require at least one hour per day of fly tying, for a period of several months, especially in cold weather.

Like Chris, the blues really set in when I have not been fishing in a while (such as now). I'm really getting jittery sitting around just tying flies all the time. Granted, tying flies and experimenting with new flies is fun, it does not replace the feel of a good bluegill bending your fly rod. Hopefully work will let up in a week or two, the wind will die down and I can go fishing!
