Looks like a Redear Ike - nice fish

Thats BIG and nice Redear Sunfish!

Great fish, I know you was grinning big when you landed it. Thanks for posting

I didn't catch it. A guy named Jesse Miller did. I just saw that picture on our local fishing forums (www.sdfish.com) and cross posted the picture here. But there are more like it in that lake and it is only about 9 miles from home.

What makes this even more remarkable is that Lake Poway would be considered little more than a farm pond in some parts of the country, at about 80 acres. I've fished Lake Poway a few times; it's a beautiful little lake and fairly sheltered from the wind by the high hills that surround it. One weekend when I took my kids up to Lake Cuyamaca and stayed in a cabin there, the next day was totally blown out and basically too windy to fish, so we drove down to Lake Poway instead.  The picture of my daughter in her pajamas with a bluegill was taken after that trip.

Quagga mussels were found in Lake Poway about a year and a half ago, and are apparently helping to fatten up the redear. Expect more fish like this from that little gem of a lake.
