Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Does anyone know which lake in Texas has the largest Bluegill and best Bluegill fishing... Lake Sam Rayburn or Toledo Bend Reservoir?

Try to google......."Fort Polk Toledo Bend Recreation Site" to reach their web page......looks like it's still a great fishing destination......

Also, Fort Polk did have a recreation site with boat rentals and some lodging near Florein, Louisiana......Might be a good place for a few current clues as well.....they had fish cleaning as well as boat ramps......don't know if this location is still available or not.......

Hello Richard and I would first like to take this opportunity to Thank You for your service, I'm also retired military after 22 great years in the Silent Service during the Cold War.......I have fished both reservoirs you referenced but neither in the last twenty years......My family lived on the banks of The Toledo Bend Reservoir southern end during the 80s and 90s.........both lakes provided excellent bluegill fishing but I more often fished Toledo since we lived there......Hundreds of acres of grassy flats with sandy bottoms are a haven for big bluegill.......these are really large bodies of water with Sam Rayburn covering 115,000 surface acres while Toledo Bend reaches 188,000.......both lakes hold water near 100 feet deep in the river channels.......I fished the back quiet coves most of the year with sustained success and ventured out to the shores of the main lake islands during the spawn catching hundreds of fish at a time in April and early May.........many places to access the lakes but alot of Toledo is rural especially on the Louisiana side.......if you have time this spring to visit these lakes I think you will be happy....good luck and wish I was still there to show you around.......
