While doing some scouting on the local lakes doing drive bys… I noticed all the shanties were removed from the lake and many were resting in the parking lot. Not one fisherman was on the ice.

Drilling a couple holes in the backyard pond resulted in a 4-6 in ice thickness reveal.

Open water… not much longer. A short but record breaking ice-fishing pace for Earl and I this season!

20170301-Earliest ice out I’ve ever experienced with record breaking above normal temps for mid Michigan in February. Cut the ice fishing season by 33% on avg.

looking like another 3 weeks of transition ice/open water till nearly the 1st week in April as colder temps move into the region... very low night time temps.

with wind and temps in the 50's... Wixom Lake is open but will lock up with ice later in the week with temps in the single digits and teens...

While we are currently in a transition state between the ice period and cold water period Earl and I decided to do a little recon on some public lakes to expand on. The lakes would be in a radius of 30-minute drive from the home base. Came across this nice little-unmapped jewel worth exploring.

Hopefully id like to get on this lake early in the Cold Water Period to either map the contours with my Elite 7 HDI or better yet with a new Humminbird Helix 7 G.

20170321-RECON!
