Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

I'm finding that the catfish sometimes outnumber my bluegill catch rate. At any rate I suspected there were bigger catfish in my waters and went on a handlining trip a couple week ago:

If you're on Facebook, I just posted info on how NOT grip a fly rod when playing large fish.
Palmetto Fish n Fly/Facebook
And Carl it just hits me - you're not using a fly rod for fly casting, right? At least, not in the usual sense... or did you change that?

David;; 90 percent of the time;; I roll cast my fly line;; never put the line behind me !!  and;; 60 percent  of the time; I use a quill float fly rodding !!  when I roll cast;;  I can generally cast around 20 feet or better ; pretty easy;; any further;; I just make a quicker ;  cast;;  trifle harder;; Tooty;; his buddy ; Mike;; Johnny Wilkins; Keith Ritter;; have witnessed me roll casting;; pretty far.  Keith once told me;; you cant do that with a fly rod !  my reply was;; sorry;; I didnt mean to !!  and;; I have another trick I use roll casting;; I can make it turn- side ways;; shoot underneath;; over hanging tree limbs;; shoot underneath boat docks;; things like that.  that takes-- a LOT of practise !  once you get the hang; of roll casting;;  you will proably only use it- instead of a back cast !!   so-- is that  method; different in a usual way of using a fly rod ??  for me;; its just normal..  besides;; if trees; bushes; the what ever is behind you;; you cant do a back cast !!  roll casting;; is the first way I learned to cast a fly rod  !!!

Somewhere I got the idea you werent using a fly line at all.
I like roll casting, too. But it sounds like you're the master!

by using a fly rod  most of the time; I practised  casting; to difficult target areas;;  Im no master by any means;; just sometimes lucky to get it right
