20150910-SpiderWire Product Improvements!

i usually purchase my SpiderWire from a wholesaler and they are usually a few months later in rolling out a newer product line… its been probably a year since I order or bought SpiderWire brand and it is my favorite brand of braid.  Reading the pkg details and product description I noticed three improvements

1)     Fluorocarbon coating… basically not a big deal to me just a marketing gimmick. This suggests it is more invisible when thinness is the most important factor in line invisibility.

2)     Color lock technology… I hope this works… I really like the color of their moss green line but turns whitish and fades after which I think is a short time.

3)     Thinness by a factor of 6!! … I used to use the common rule of 25% of mono equivalent. Wow!! Fellow fishermen this 6# test is thin!

Cant wait to spool and try out on an UL Jigging setup… keep y’all posted

20150911 - the wife just put an order in for six crappy in 8 to 10 inch range for dinner tonight... I guess I have to get er done.

20150911- Cold front timing with terrible results

so my wife said she'd like to have a little fish fry tonight... ive been on a consistent Crappie pattern all week... crappies start biting after 17:30 along this weed edge approaching a bend in the original creek
channel. feeling confident I take a power nap before heading out. it was a
beautiful day periods of strong sun and a very gentle variable breeze. as i
headed out on the 12 minute paddle to my spot the wind started kicking up. by
the time i reached my spot it was a consistent 15mph wind. terrible boat control
and a loss of feel to the jig with the wind bow in my line. fishing the slot of
8 to 10" i ended up with (2)... luckily. by the time i reached the launch site
it was 59 degrees and i was shivering.

we ended up supplementing the fish with egg rolls fried in the oil and dinner ended up great.

Am i a glutton for punishment or what it's 59 degrees cold cloudy and windy and I want to go out and test the bite

20150911- Short Session From Wixom Lake

...no kayak fishing for me today... felt like i practiced with the Detroit Lions the day before... didn t stop me from spending a few minutes to test the bite at the bridge... water in the mid 60's and one short SMB to show for it.

hit the 2"Power Minnow on a 1/32 oz Jig head

20150913-Wixom Lake – Fishing the tough Bite

You know your facing a tough bite when you scan and log sonar data on every square yard of the area your going to fish and spot very few fish. Experiencing an extreme drop in water temps from low eighties to mid 60’s in just over a week’s time surely pounds some negative behavior in the life of a fish. Add some extreme cold front conditions the past few days is a formula for fishing disaster. You go out anyway… fishing the tough days when you know you’re not going to catch the numbers makes you a better and more productive fisherman in the long run. Log those bad fish days … it is time on the water well spent.
After about an hour and a half of mapping a large section of the BOW north of Dale Bridge and not marking any fish on sonar we decided up against the bank may be worth trying. After striking out with live bait and waxies on slip floats and short drop shot tight to cover we started hitting the deep dense weed edges picking up scattered perch and crappies on small jigs. The Tabbert Jelly Jig in Green was the top producer for me scoring a few fish. Scale down your presentations on a tough bite.
The slow fish was pre occupied with some great company with Earl and his son Connor. This youngster is off and running with his fishing enthusiasm. Great time fishing with family … time well spent!
