Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

PATTERN

1-bluegills are schooled along medium to deep sparsely weeded sticky bottom flats

2 bluegills are schooled or located along large open pockets in weed beds

3-gravel or sand flats

RIGGING

1- ultra light or light spinning tackle.

2- micro braid or 5– 8 lb test usually 1 to 2lb test mono equivalent diameter.

3- Eagle Claw Lazer Sharp Widebend or Octopus hook #8 - #14 or equivalent (im always experimenting with hooks)

4- Light drop shotting sinker or reusable split shot double wrapped at the end of line tag.

5- Bait of your choice… I usually use ½  crawler segments or Gulp pink maggots.

PRESENTATION:

Locate schools of bluegill on your sounder on deep sticky bottom flats, sparsely weeded flats gravel flats etc. let sink to the bottom slowly dragging to the boat provide slight twitching along the way with pauses or continuous drag. Find the pattern of movement they prefer. Fill up your cooler but please recognize a reasonable slot limit.

Nice work on this post Ken . At Shepherds lake ,I like to target Gills using this technique in weed pockets and outside weed lines .Thanks!

thanks John... this method was my top producer last season

Ken

This I can use. Love to microfish and I never thought to use a drop shot rig, Nice setup

thanks Joe ive gone down to about about a #7 split shot about a 1/16 oz with a #14 eagle claw octopus hook and a half maggot and caught many between 9 and 10 inches in 15 ft of water. awesome way to fish when you are looking for sport.
