Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Needed a new camp knife for the up coming season. The the blade is from a old cross-cut saw and the handle is spalted Ash.

Keith , looking at the background of the photo of that neat knife , I see you have a good looking clever there too, just happen to have  some walnut that has been kiln  dried if you ever want to try some walnut scales. LOFR

That belongs to my son Garrett. I don't know his plans. But any materials are welcome. He' s some nice knives. I'll add a pic. Circular saw blade with Black Walnut handle

Great looking knife! I've made several using old circular saw blades. I cut out the knife blanks with a dremel and cutoff disc. Then shape with a file and make the handle out of scrape wood. Instead of brass wire for the pins I just used brass machine screws, cut off the heads and grind flush to the handle. All in all maybe 50 cents to a dollar in material.

That's very close to how I make mine. I use brass brazing rod I peen them down to hold the handles on. I use circular saw blades a lot. I blank them out and do the rough shaping with a ten dollar angle grinder from Harbor Freight. This one is from a circular saw.

Nice file work! I'm working on one now & will post a picture when done.

Thanks, Papa would love to see it. Do you have Wayne Goddard's book 50 Dollar Knife Shop? It's a great book for backyard bladesmiths.

No I haven't I'll have to check it out. lots of great vids on youtube. I'm a woodcarver and a lot of us make small carving knives out of reciprocating saw blades and bandsaw blades.

Wow Papa - a Dremel!

Yep, the little cutoff wheels break easy, but cut thru the metal with a little patience, faster than a hack saw.

YUP I LIKE THIS ONE ALOT KEITH !!!!!!!!

Love love love this one!
