Do you love big bluegill?
Today I got a chance to actually fish one of the Orange Nymphs I tied up for the swap. I was not really surprised when I caught 4 female Bluegills within 25 minutes, and missed at least one fish.
Ok, now I know the fish are really keying on the color orange, like what Dick Tabbert suggested. Good, I'll keep fishing that color. I've got a Wooly Bugger I tied up in Orange, so I'll try to fish that soon.
My last fish was really nice. I had cast my double-fly rig out. Within seconds, I noticed that the Deer Hair Caddis indicator was moving against the wind, and was being slowly dragged under. I did a quick strip-set, then raised my rod to fight the fish. THIS FISH felt substantially bigger than the 'gills I had been catching. I thought I had a Hybrid Sunfish, until I caught a glimpse of it. It was in shallow water, and headed for the weedline, shaking it's head. It was a Largemouth Bass, about 1 1/2 lbs. I didn't a picture, unfortunately, as the fish got tangled up in the weeds and broke my tippet.
A LMB on a size 12 hook?!?!?!
I've got some bigger versions of this nymph tied up, up to size 8. I have yet to fish them. Looks like I'm going to start here soon.

Buddy got one about 3.5 lb last week on a #14 scud.
I guess you just really never know what's going to hit the lure/bait when you go fishing.....
