Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Winds were dead-calm to maybe 3 mph, generally from the south.  Not sure of the water temp.  Cloudy.

Tied on a size 10 Deer Hair Caddis to use as an indicator, with a size 12 BH Flashback Scud in orange about 8" below the DHC.  My 5wt rod, overlined with a WF6F Bass Taper line was on fire today.  I'm throwing more and more line with each day, and I'm not even using a double haul!

Well, I started catching fish, maybe not "like crazy", but they were definitely in a feeding mood.  I saw several surface takes as the 'Gills were taking midges as they hatched.  I can't see my Griffith's Gnats at that distance, so I'm not using them.  I had a several fish take a slap at the DHC, but no solid hookups.  All fish caught were caught on the Scud.

Dick Tabbert, I want to thank you for mentioning the use of the color orange for Scuds.

I'll try and get a pic later tonight of the bug I'm using.

Very descriptive post Allen, sounds like a good days fishing.  Any size to the gills?

Average size.  You can see that in the pics I uploaded.  I'm waiting for the Hybrid sunnies to start biting.  I thought I had one today, but whatever it was got off.

Glad you are seeing some action........I have been waiting for the water to warm a bit. (keep throwing them flies) warmer weather is right at our doorstep.................Don in SC
