Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

went fishing for a couple hours at one of my dads "permission spots" for a couple hours after he got off of work. went there with some minnows and several rods to try to catch some nice catfish or bass. I brought my ultralight with me as well just in case and had a beetle spin tied onto it already, thinking i could fish along the walls for a few minutes before tightlining or fishing with a bobber. turns out all i ended up doing was wrecking shop with my beetle spin tipped with a piece of night crawler. I haven't really fished there, but my dad fishes there quite often and he's caught about a 15 foot catfish, then the last couple weekends his line was broken off by a cat with a mouth about 8 inches across, then a massive bass spit the hook out as it jumped.  I'm excited about the turn out of that spot, so i'l ldefinately be going back soon!

Those permission spots can hold some nice fish when the pressure is low......I have a couple that I haven't fished in a few years and one of the gentlemen even called me earlier last week talking about big bass and Crappie he caught with his grandchildren. Guess I need to set aside an afternoon and try things out......Good job Chris and isn't it great to see the Spring conditions out the window!

thank you sir! you better take him up on that!

I agree!

Last year, a buddy of mine invited me out to fish a large private pond / small lake that he had permission on.  When we got there, it was about 6 pm, overcast, with just a light breeze to ruffle the water.  Water of fairly clear, with a few feet of visibility to it.  While we were talking about strategies to fish the pond, I saw a couple topwater hits.  I immediately noted the weather, and told my buddy the topwater bite was on.  I tied on a Heddon Tiny Torpedo that I had, and started casting it past obvious ambush points, twitching it back.  I must have caught a dozen or so.  The last fish was a really chunky 4 lber that completely launched itself out of the water on the attack, flipping upside down doing so.  Of course, I didn't connect with it.

I've got the owner's phone number; I should try to contact him to see about getting permission, maybe even launch my kayak.

nice!! get on it and rip some lips!
