Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

My FF80 arrived today, and it's true: this is a brand new, never fished J-series rod. The red tag in the picture is the Fenwick warranty and registration card.

One thing that's odd about it is the FF80 8' 4 oz. information is hand-lettered directly on the rod; it's not a decai. The Fenwick logo is a decal. Has anybody ever seen one like that before?  Is it possible this is something out of the Fenwick custom shop, or did the decal more likely come off and get replaced with hand lettering by some fly shop in the past?

Thanks!

Jonathan

What line wt is this rod rated for? In the old days  there was hand writing on a lot of fen wicks.

What about putting some pictures of this rod on the board? please in clued pictures of the tube it came in it possible.  Fishin' Jimmy  aka Jim Ducy

There's a quick pic of the rod, tube, and sock showing the but end with the Fenwick label attached to my original post (ff80.jpg) showing the handwriting. It doesn't have a line weight listed, but all the other FF80s I've seen have a decal in the place where the handwriting is, which says FF80, the rod weight, and AFTMA line weight 7-8. This one has the handwriting instead.

Thanks!

Jonathan

This is one sweet looking rod!!!!!! In the old days most of the major companys did hand lettering on their rods and  most used a decal for the rod manufacturer and some form of lettering for the rod info. Shakespeare for example used a decal for years and had spray paint for the rod info or a stencil of the info and used a roller or something to apply . High end companys like Sage , Winston, and some others used a combination of decals and handwriting .

Those decals don't just come off on their own. I've put many decals on my custom rods and once on they are a bearcat to get off if you put em on crooked! In my own personal opinion this is a standard Fenwick rod and a dandy to use.
