Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

when fishing larger bodies of water we troll alot.. what i mean is we use a depth finder to tell us how deep the water is and say its 12 feet deep then we try to cast 11feet out .. we just use a bare jig tipped with waxworm and set our poles down and just wait.. its allmost like catfishing because when they hit you know it.. we just let the wind or current take us..  we have had some awesome days doin this

anyone ever fish like this..

Actually, wouldn't that be called drift fishing? I thought trolling was done under some sort of power

Most of the summer, mini cranks, streamers, micro spoons on the top to bottom bouncing. 12' boat and trolling motor, actually as much fun as getting the Bass boat out, maybe more. 

That's what I consider drifting also. Split shotted worms and drifting  has put be on some excellent Gills.I 've used a drift sock to slow presentation if I'm getting hits but missing fish .Excellent Yellow Perch fishing comes this way also!

A good trolling tecnique that works is back trolling against the wind near a hotspot .Back trolling isn't as quiet as drifting but keeps you on the fish at least until they're spooked .To drop anchor at that point would probbly be best.I recall an early season windy day getting on Gills off a rock bluff ,backtrolling with small black jigs.

I troll for crapie alot and pick up big gils that way as well. Small jig head with small tubes or twister tails always work well for me.

i drift because i dont have a trolling motor or fishfinder and still catch em everywhere.

This is almost what we do in our float tubes to find groups of fish.  As I kick my way to my fishing  spot, (which always seems to be far away.. LOL) I'll troll behind me a jig tipped with bait or sometimes a tiny Dardevle Skeeter.  Sometimes I never get to my destination because I end up finding a nice group of fish!  

trolling and drift fishing are excellent to cover water to find bluegills. And most often the biggest bluegills are out in open water. I try different depths since sometimes they will set up differently according to the conditions. Once I find them, I keep the lure right there as I move around the pond.
