Why do floats work? This is a great example of a bluegill using it's gills to suck its prey in. Feeding is done by drawing water with gills into mouth. Prey and water are pulled in. Neutral, Moderate and Aggressive strength are graphed for you.

If you haven't read this, I posted 4 feeding videos which show close-up how bluegills feed. Knowing this- you can now have an idea of what is happening below, when you are looking at your float above the water. Also, if you see that the fish need to sip their food in to move your bite indicator- you see the need for a properly balanced float: Read the Feeding Blog
