Bluegills are MADE for light flyrods! I have an eight foot, two weight that I bought specificaly to fish for BGs at a lake in Northern Oklahoma (Osage County). I use it lots of other places, but it is perfect for this spot.
I'm digging those pants you Buddy has on.

I use a Sage 3 wt. for the gills down here in south florida and they bend it in half. I'd like to try a 1 wt sometime, it would be like trying to land a bluefin tuna on UglyStick.
gillbum here,
I've been using a 7-foot, 1-weight fly rod for all my panfishing and small stream trout. The rod combined with a Hardy fly weight reel seems made for gills. Favorite fly for bluegills is a blue wing olive in size #14. Black gnat and mosquito are other favorites. i love it when the gills are hitting on top.

It's an old Scott G-Series 6'10" model called a "Japan Special", kind of a rare custom deal as I understand it. Might try to get a pic of the blank label to post in my photos section. In this video, I was doing the filming/boat positioning, while my buddy, who owns the rod, was doing the catching. We'd rotate on each BG bedding area we fished that day.
Looks like a blast, where do you get a one wt rod.
Nothing but fun! Not great with fly names, but it's the bead head nymph in my picture "flyrodgill" on my photo page.
Hey B., Bet the one wt. is a riot, I use a two wt. might have to give the 1 wt. a try!!!!!
Good JOB!!!!! What was the nymph?????
