Ive enjoyed fishing in the 50s and 60s more than anytime in my entire life! Fish were abundant and could go anywhere and catch fish all day feeling safe that im not going to get mugged or shot at
Hawthorn is 172 acres, 33 feet deep-lots of flooded timber, nearest town is Barnes City.
Lake Belva Deer is 264 acres, 34 feet deep, first created in 2001, very good for crappie and gils, lots of flooded timber, nearest town is Sigourney-about hour and half straight west of Muscatine.
Lake Geode is super for big gils, 187 acres, 44 feet deep, Nearest town is Danville.
The one my neighbor fishes is Lake Sugema, 574 acres, 15.7 miles of shoreline, 34 feet deep, super, super great for bluegill and redear, nearest town is Keosauqua.
Do you have the Iowa Fishing Guide? if not I can send you mine since I won't be using it anymore.
Dave I would love to but at the time I volunteered to make John some ants to try. Made some up sent them and dumb me never got a picture. The worst part is I don't remember how I made them but I think I made them from dubbing. Maybe John has a picture and would share it with us.
You are right, Tooty...tough winter. I have to go back to the early 1980's to have low temperatures and ice thickness comparble to this season. Lots of snowfall, but only one big one...last weeks 24 inch storm. I have removed snow 9 times this winter. Praise God for 4-wheel drive!

Hey tooy,
I have not talked to you for a while. I usually look at bigbluegill.com at work on the week end nights. For some reason whenever I commit on a picture the computer will kick me off the sight. If I blog about something it will let me stay on.
Things are going okay here. I got my new float tube. It is not as roomy as my old float tube. I got that old fishing hole back. It has lots of nine inch gills, and some crappie. It is about 5 miles from my house. I got two more places to fish. Both of these ponds came from patients that I took care of in the hospital. I still have to visit one, which I might do this coming week. The other pond has more crappie then gills in it. Alot of small crappie, but some nice big ones also.
Has the fishing slowed down for you??? I have been doing okay because the gills are in heavy cover. It seems they are all around lay down trees, but not the vertical stumps. So I go from lay down to lay down and catch fish. I think things are about to slow down, since the night temps are going down. I think the ponds will do their turn over and the fishing will be bad, and the water will be to cold for me to float tube. I figure I might have just one more week in the float tube. You take care.
