Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

First, let me start by saying thank you to whoever created this site! My question is, Is there any members here from South Carolina & if so, where can I find good bream fishing in Columbia SC?

Also, I'm a cricket and wiggler man, but I'm looking forward to learning some new killer technics.

Hey Ivan.
I know a couple BBG members that live out west of Columbia, around Leesville. One of the guys is Tony Alexander. He gets a lot of nice shell cracker and other good fish out of Lake Murray. He fishes from a his boat on the deep end of points and channel edges.
The other guy is David, aka "McScruff." He don't catch doodly, but he's real sincere.

Hi Ivan. Im not in Columbia but close by. I'm in Sumter. I am still looking for productive waters here. It seems anyplace a person can fish by boat or bank beatin has so much pressure that the fish are stunted or have gotten smart. I have had my best luck at a place on Manchester State Forrest called Beech Creek. You can find it on google maps if you look search for the state forrest. Look carefully at the river flood plane near Campbell creek rd. I have only found two launch areas. One is on HWY 378 but I had no luck there. Hit me up sometime If you would like more information.

Ivan, the few times I've been to the south to fish for bluegills and crappies, we've brought bee moths (or waxworms) from home in Indiana. Many places either have crickets (which work almost everywhere) and worms/nightcrawlers, or even mealworms. Bee moths work really well tipped on a jig and small tube, or even 2 and 3 at a time on a #6 red hook, especially during spring or those rare times when the bulls are finicky. The best part is, crappie like bee moths too so it can be a double whammy depending on the water you are fishing. Many places sell bee moths over the Web now.

I live in Illinois and I don't have boat, too! My suggest is look at google.com to find fishing spots around where you live! Check South Caroina DNR website or South Carolina public lakes for fishing in google.com. I am sure that many lakes would pop up and you get information. Bluegills and redear sunfish are almost everywhere in South Carolina!
More you search in the internet then you will find more place to fish!

Hope it help!

Thanks John for the info! However, I don't have a boat, and I can't swim that well, so do you know of any good spots like creeks, ponds, or small lakes that have public access? My 14 year old Son & 8 year old Daughter will be with me 75% of the time and I would like the area to be "kid friendly" without any gators or cottonmouths. I know its hard to give up all of the secret spots, but we only need one or two! Thanks!
