Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Does anyone fish for shellcrackers at night??? It is way too hot here in the south right now to fish during the day!!! Just wondering if there are any night owls out there?? Thanks!!

I'll stick to the early morning bite and off the water by noon. Nick

Coyotes like to sing at night but if they get too close just thump them on the nose, they'll get the message, but big fat cottonmouths like to come to the light and who's holding it, they have a bad attitude

I've never seen a snake come to the light in TX. They don't run from the light either. I was more afraid of the coyotes when I was fishing at night. They were making a lot of noise.

Down in your part of the world don't snakes come to the lights yall run in the dark like they do in ours, you spend more time beating snakes than you do fishing, also out skeeters are the size of turkeys

Like Sharon, I'd rather sweat than swat skeeters. I've been avoiding going fishing because it is so hot in South Alabama. Today, I finished work early and just decided to go anyway. I hit the water at 2PM and 100 degrees. I caught about 15 bluegill and 2 shellcrackers before 4PM. Umbrella fishing does make a difference. It wasn't too bad out there.

Now I have heard of a fellow on the Florida Bama line who has his boat rigged for night fishing and catches lots of gills at night. I don't know about shellcrackers though.

Why do you think they call them Sunfish?

I tried fishing at night only once. The mosquitos, and fear of coyotes drove me in. Didn't catch any fish for that 30 minutes either.
