Mostly I fish flies; but, gotta agree with Vince on the beetle spin, I take off the rubber grub and replace it with a live cricket.  Toss it out near some structure let it sink a second or two and start a steady slow retrieve.

I like a 1/32 ounce jig head with a chartreuse Crappie Slider with a red tail, fished either stop and go, or a steady slow retrieve.  I've also had a lot of luck with a 1" Gulp minnow fished on a 1/64 ounce jig head, with slow again being the key.

It is hard to beat a Beetle Spin. I use the smallest ones they make. I think it is a 1/32 oz. They are cheap and almost snag proof. I like the green ones with a black stripe on them. I know walmart sells them for less than a buck. You cast it out and reel it back in just fast enough to make the blade spin. They usually hit these real hard!

Bwood it's not an  easy thing to explain. Its something that gets better with time. I use small 1/16 oz jig heads with white pearl 1 1/2 " tails. Reel slowly over the weed beds the cooler the water temp the slower the retrieve. Some bite will be very distinct a hard hit but most will be a small tap and the only way to really distinguish it is you will have to read your line watch for any small line taps and them you have that bite where you reel and all of a sudden there is weight on it. I would say the more you fish this way the better you will get at it. I also like small black or brown inline spinners. Just cast it out and reel it in and hang on. Hope this helps don't get discouraged if you don't pick it up right away just keep working at it with time come's experience with experience come knowledge.   GOOD FISHIN..
