Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Greetings to all,  I have loved all things out of doors since childhood Primary activity has been hunting(in fact, I just returned from good Quail hunt this AM). Have fished a bit, mostly with a cane pole, bobber, split-shot and hook with a worm!  Consider myself a 'young 80' years of age and am looking to try something new, specifically Ultra Lite fishing. We're talking Kindergarten level here! I need help about everything from equipment suggestions to techniques , and I'm certain this Forum is 'broken out' in good advice!

Best,

Benjamin W. Romine

Hi Joe,  You are correct as far as my needs are concerned. See the post I sent to Keith today. You have validated that this is the direction I intend to go.

Keith is on the right track. A fixed line pole with 2 lb or less test and a #12 or smaller hook will give you all the benefits of UL fishing plus a direct connection to the fish. Fixed line pole technology has changed over the last few year and the poles are becoming lighter and longer. You can even fix line fly fish with a Tenkara Pole.

Don't give up on the old pole and bobber just down size the line, hook size and action of your pole and you are ultra light fishing. P.S. make your own floats. Find a simple combo and a few proven lures and gather as much local info about where to fish as you can and go at it. Bluegill will reward efforts like these.
