Do you love big bluegill?
Hey guys today the wife and I are going fishing for bluegill at one of the ponds in her parents subdivision. We have fished there a few times before but have never really caught a large amount of fish there, but we have not ever fished the whole lake very thorough. We have always fished a point in the lake that I knew we would get bites just to make sure that my wife stay interested in fishing. She gets bored very easily so it is best to put her were she has the best chance to catch a fish every few minutes. The problem in the past has been that I always have the pull the fish off the hook for her. I have shown her how to do it many times, so today I am hoping that she will be able to do it on her own for a little while. If so this will let me work my way around most of the lake to see if I can find were the bluegill are hanging out were we might have a good catch today.
The area that I have marked is were we normally fish. This spot has been fairly good we have had a lot of bites there but I think that the most we have ever been able to keep was four or five. Most of the fish that we have caught here have been in the 4" to 5" size. I generally try to keep the 6" to 8" range fish to help on the population sizing and I will keep larger fish if I find that there are a lot of the big ones in a body of water. This lake is about nine or ten acres and I know that there are bluegill, large mouth bass, spotted bass, and crappie in it.
I know that the east end of the lake is the shallow end. So this morning I am planning on trying to fish the whole east end on the morning bite to see where the bluegill and possibly crappie are feeding at. I am also planning on throwing a drop shot lead out to see if I can possibly find some beds after my wife has to go to work. That way I can maybe have a plan on fishing this lake a little better this fall or next spring during the spawn.
