Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Went fishing on Vanduse lake near Jacobson, Mn. on Monday and had a great afternoon. Me and my kids caught several gills in the 6"-8" range and some nice crappie and bass. All of the fish were hanging out in the middle of the lake just off an exposed weed hump were the water dropped from about 9' down to 14' in a boat length. A 2" pumpkinseed Gulp minnow grub fished on a plain 1/16th oz. jig out-produced all other bait including crawlers! I was very impressed with the production I got out of that bait. Had a neat experience that night that was a first for me. At about 7 p.m., the wind died down and the lake was like a sheet of glass. My little guy was in the back of the boat with me and the crappies had just moved in. I hooked about a 6 incher and while I was reeling in I felt two hard tugs on the ultralight and figured a northern had grabbed a hold of that fish as it is not an uncommon occurence up here. As he approached the boat my little guy pointed and yelled and as the crappie came close to the surface not more than two feet from the boat, there was about a 5- 5 1/2 pound largemouth following it. I let some line out and the the largemouth grabbed the back end of the fish but would not hold on. Never had that happen up here, but will never forget it.

That is a great story! Your so right about the largemouth. I have had pike do it but, not largemouth! The Gulp minnow in 2.5" and minnow grub in 2" work very well! Thats is about all I have used this summer! I'll give you a call tonight bud! Thanks for sharing man!
