Do you love big bluegill?
So much for HIPPA laws. My Dr. had a chat with my wife and the next thing I know my wife presents me with a bike and instructions to ride it 30 minutes a day. #$$%#$%@#$%$#%!!!
But after considering running away form home I realized there is a pond 1.5 miles from the house......... Hmmmmmmm!
Rode it out there this morning......... After the black spots quit circling in front of my eyes and I could stand up straight I fly fished for 30 minutes and actually made it home in one piece.
Maybe this will work out after all.

Still at it! Can't say it's easier yet but at least it's not harder!
Hope you've been keepin up with this Earl! You can do it!
Just saw this thread, and I have to say, Earl, you are hilarious! Good luck with the exercise - like others have said, beginning is by far the most difficult part.
Also, awesome advice from Leo regarding diet - I know people who exercise regularly but eat fast food and sweets every day, and are still obese. But if you eat right, and exercise at least twenty to thirty minutes a day, the pounds will fall away, and you'll feel better than you have in many years.
30 points for blood sugar is probably because your body hasn't got the chance to reset/reboot with the new exercise. Drink water at room temp, and eat handful of mix fresh fruits to get the blood sugar in check. But at the same time, make sure not to eat/drink any refined sugar product.
Jonathan, coconut oil, although it has saturated fat, it's not the bad kind that people deemed it to be. The saturated fat in the true, coconut oil, not over refined, contain the lipid chain that actually help your heart, and burn the excess fat around your belly when used in moderation. If one has the cash, spend on olive oil only. But to kick things up with a bit of flavor, coconut oil.
I hear you, man. I'm 50 and married to a great cook, which means that in over 10 years of marriage, I have gone from 155 to something a lot more than that (but under 200, at least lol). I love cycling, but between my work hours and homework time commitments with our kids, my bike doesn't see a whole lot of use these days. Will be making some adjustments in late fall that should net me some time for cycling most days.
No ponds (at least not with fish in them so far as I can tell) within cycling distance of my house, but at least I'll get to ride some.
Float tubing is also kind of good exercise, although it would be hard to transport one by bike unless you get a bike trailer. That will add quite a bit of weight and rolling resistance, so get used to biking for a while before trying that.
Leo, isn't coconut oil one of the bad ones? IIRC it has saturated fat in it. Canola oil should also be on the good list, no?
Yep, changing the way I eat will be the hardest of all. I know I gotta quit smoking too. $%#$%^%$%!!! But as crappy as I feel all around at 47 I'm afraid of the coming years. Between diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. I gotta either croak or get healthy.
DAY 2 - Made it to the pond. Had to fight a Canada goose for my foam spider, false casted a 2" black perch. That was one surprised little fish! Caught a few BG and one 12" bass. Rode back and did an extra 1/2 mile. Dang blood sugar went up 30 points during this. WTH?
Mike, you nailed it!
Earl, the first thing is to get the "fat" out of the "fatboy". Let's make you into a "reduced-boy" instead. Cycling is just one components in getting you back on your feet. Eating right is the next one. As Mike has stated well, the hardest part is indeed is the starting part..and the restarting. Your butt, since it hasn't gotten used to the weight concentration in one location for support, will take about a week to get used to. My wife took about 2 weeks on and off. Once she established the regiment in cycling, it didn't hurt afterward. Same with anyone, no matter how comfy of a bike seat you have.
Eating a proper diet is critical. Try to reset your system from the daily crap that you may be shoving into your system. This means, and I'm going to be extremely mean about this because I care, no more:
1. Refined sugars: yep..time to minimize and eliminate. You can look for alternatives, such as beet sugars, honey, and molasses. Yep..molasses. Cancer fighting agent right there. DO NOT USE SUGAR SUBSTITUTES! This means no Sweet and Low, Nutrasweet, etc.. This will destroy your kidneys and liver in the long run, and create colon's cancers like you wouldn't believe. So, sodas are out! You can a cup of icecream if you wish as a snack. 2 cups max a day..not pint!
2. No more processed foods: Minimize and eliminate canned foods, processed foods in box, etc.. Time to switch to wholesome healthy fresh foods that have not been processed. If you need to use a processed food, such as herbs and spices, or something that cannot be obtained fresh from the local markets, then use it..don't go overboard.
3. No more bad oils: The only oils you can stick to are virgin olive oil, coconut oil, sesame oil, and pure butter..I know..butter is not oil, but I need to toss it in there.
4. Eat more veggies and fruits: your dietary consumption. Remember, this is not a DIET. It's a dietary consumption change. 50% of each meal must consists of veggies. The fresher and rawer the veggies, the better. If you're going to eat fruits, eat it before a meal.
5. Break your meals down to 5 to 6 meals a day. Yep..5 to 6 meals a day. BUT, your meals should not be more than the size of your palm, and 1" thick. Just eat enough to feel satisfied, not bulging full.
6. Eat lots of nuts: mixed raw nuts, or quick roasted nuts without salt, is an essential lipids supplement. Brazilian nuts (max of 2 to 3 a day) is perfect for prostate cancer prevention. Walnut, macadamia, cashew, peanut, almond, and plenty of other raw nuts are perfect for your health.
7. Drink a nice glass of room temp water before a meal. Yeah..it sucks to drink warm water, but cold water before and after a meal will not allow the fats from the foods to pass through your system effectively. The fats will linger longer in the stomach and around the intestines.
You are considered as an endomorph body structure. A bit overweight, a bit softy, but you'll be able to lose weight if you eat properly.
Max caloric intake for the first month is 2800 for your body size, while cycling and fishing. Weight training is highly encouraged, so, dust off those weights in the garage somewhere, and start doing some weight training.
Water intake should be 1 gallon a day. No more than 1.5 gallons. If the day is getting hot, up to 2 gallons, max at 2.5 gallons.
If you want me to break down the meal plans for you, let me know..that is, when you are ready. You have to do this wholeheartedly as you're being serious about in losing weight and become healthy. You can't be half-way on this matter.
Biking and fishing! How much fun is that? Biking is great exercise and yer butt will shape up in no time if you keep at it. if it doesn't they make all kinds of padded shorts even ones you can wear under your clothes (spandex is not very flattering on me LOL). walking or running are great cross training for biking if your joints will support it. and I love the idea of the kayak and bike mix. Keep us posted on your progress!
You can do it Earl, a bicycle is one the best things for anyone! Especially if it gets you where you want to fish.
Well Leo, any and all help would be great. So far it SUCKS! I'm going again in the morning but my butt hurts already just thinking about it. But I've got a couple Mayfly nymphs I've varied coloring on that will make it worth another round.
