Did the pond dye do it ?

Back in 2012 I had a 5/8 acre pond dug. About one forth of it is ten feet deep, the rest tapers off to nothing. After a couple years the algae started growing. Last year I used a leaf rake and went around the entire pond, a week later you couldn't tell it. This year I had three feet of algae around the edge and islands of it here and there in the middle. I decided to start a pond dye treatment. I did it two weeks ago with plans to do it eight weeks later and start again in the next spring. A few days after the treatment it came a half inch rain, I went to look at the pond and the algae was gone. It's been a week and a half and it hasn't floated back up yet. My question is, was it the dye or just the rain and will it float back up and return ?
