Do you love big bluegill?
I have been told by 2 different people that there is a old school technique of fishing for crappie. The way it was explained to me is to cut below the lip of a crappie, pull on some type of membrane underneath and a forked tongue shaped piece of something will come off . You use this to jig with and it drives them wild. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Well I never, but have eaten grouper thoats and snapper thoats down on the coast so I guess these bream and crappie throats will work. The grouper throats caught me..LITFR
Indeed...this is a trick that old timers used throughout the Mid Atlantic. You can use the tongue or throat membrane as a tipping 'bait' on the back of the jig. It was a great tactic during the cold months, when acquiring minnows was tough. It is a true and effective technique that I have used in the past. But, yes, it has been at least 20 years since I have used it.
David, You are not as old as you think!!!!!!!
Thought you would like that one, LEO!!!!!!!!!!
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!! I"m pretty old and never heard of that one !!
LOTSFTFO!!!!!!!
Leo , Be sure to go ahead and FILLET the CRAPPIE, They don't swim so well with their THROAT CUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Leo, Put the hook in the middle in the thickest part!!!! The follow the WALYY WORLD FLOATS or the BALOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Greg, thanks for the updated tips. Is there any optimal way to hook it on the jig?
LOTF, that's truly the old school method I used in the past. Rather than a balloon, I use the red/white Walmart bobbers that I have, with the Spider 2lbs mono. Can't believe how many schools I find that way for the gills.
