I don't know how far south you want to go. I heard a lot about Reelfoot Lake in Tennessee is a very good lake, also famous for good size bluegills and Crappies. Resorts around the lake have rent a boat, place to eat and sleep.
How about Devil's Kitchen, Dutchman Lake and Lake of Egypt in southern Illinois?
