- What type of animal is a bluegill?
- We have a small pond that was built last Aug. It's around 1/4 acre and when full will be 17 feet deep. Hope to make it a bluegill pond filled with 1 lb gills and bigger. Been reading about growing large bluegills on Pond Boss and subscribe to their magazine. There is another pond on our property but the previous owners didn't take care of it nor the shoreline and now it's a couple feet deep and filled with turtles and some nice bull frogs. Too much money to reclaim it so we had the new one built.
- What state are you from? This can help us get together for fishing trips!

Pond Starting to Produce Some Nice Gills
Bluegill in our lower pond starting to get some size. The pond is around 1/10 acre and is aerated. We also feed Aquamx 500. The gills have to compete with the bass and channels for the food. Will be taking out most of the channels this fall. Will keep the bass and try to keep them small (overcrowded) to keep the bluegill spawn down. Have caught some gill up to 9 inches. Pond is 3 years old.…

Every year I go to southern Illinois or Iowa for gills and redears.

They have helped me get through this winter in northern Illinois with lots of time spent on the computoid looking at pics. Welcome Jim to bigbluegill.com. This is a site with loads of information where we can learn and enjoy in doing so. We have Forums that are interesting in themselves. Feel free to read the forums they are loaded with information and above all don't be afraid to jump in and participate we are all learning we can never learn enough and what to continue in our learning process, maybe you have that little extra something that we can put in our bag of tricks to make us even a little better fisherman/fisherwoman. On this site there is lots of information which we can use to fine tune our fishing skills maybe helping us in our pursuit of catching that special little fish we call blue gill which encompasses redears and pumpkinseeds. We also have interesting bits of wisdom on perch and crappies and the list goes on, cause we all love to catch fish or we probably wouldn't be here now.
We also have Blogs again loaded with information. This site is all about catching bluegills and we do that with some success but what we really want is that ultimate giant for bragging rights and you'll see there are some big gills caught. Its just a good well rounded site with loads of information with good people who don't mind sharing, we have loads of fun doing so which you will see. We also have some of the best photo's on the net here for us to look at put in by our members here at BBG. We have a video section that will keep your blood pumping and make you want to be fishing on that special lake or river fishing your heart out. (TAKE A KID FISHING) such a great high.
Above all we want you to enjoy yourself don't be afraid to share some of your fishing experiences with us we would love to hear about them please don't be afraid to share your exact lakes with me with all GPS coordinates and the exact baits you used it will be my little secret I won't tell soul.
We also have a Chat Room which in my opinion is very underused, but you must be log in to access it. So by all means log in and use It, you will meet some interesting and great people there who knows you may even catch me there. Enjoy, have fun but above all be safe in doing so and GOOD FISHIN..
