Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

As you can tell by my face it's cold. Was wondering is this trout a steelhead or regular trout. Never been able to get a straight answer.I know the picture isn't great. any info of the real differences between steelhead and rainbows would be helpfull. Don't know what color meat he had, cause i released all the fish. Don't know if the body of water goes out to the ocean either.

OOps. Colored. Here in MI we have a heavy population of steelhead so sometimes it's difficult to tell when the the fish are smaller. Check out some photos of Alaskan rainbows, and Pacific run steelhead as a visual comparison. Oh well, hope this helps.

Chris, steelhead are a migratory version (strain) of rainbow. The adults spawn in the river, and return to the ocean, or lake in Mchigan's case. The young steelhead or smolts spend 6mths or so in the river before migrating themselves. As adults they will return to their river of birth to spawn. The river rainbows are a strain that live their entire life cycle in the river system. Steelhead typically grow larger, and aren't usually as spotted or as brilliantly
