Thanks Tony.......it was good mental hygiene...........
Good, solid fish. Excellent cold water specimen!
Indeed it will......keep digging and I'm sure you'll find them.........winter is so unpredictable here with the coastal storms......It got out of here about 2:00 and I might have been able to fish then but I wasn't patient enough to wait it out......it was dry when I got up so I did what I do.........I went fishing!
I am still convinced the ice techniques will take gills in the Piedmont also. They have to be somewhere when they aren't around the edges. Hard rain came through Raleigh in the wee hours and was gone before 10. We chased it off in your direction...
Thanks Andy......I found myself not being patient today......rushing to try different colors and try different depths with the rain racing in....ended up catching fish suspended deep pretty much where I thought last night......this particular basin has produced winter crappie 16 years in a row now and the gills have probably always been there too but I have targeted them more in recent years after studying ice fishing tactics from successful anglers on this site.......
Nice! I wish I had been down there instead of getting blown around up here. I think the air temp 1/4 mile from the lake got into the upper 50s. But down on the cold water in those gusty winds it was another story. looks like you are off to another great year.
Thanks Jim.......Yeah Carl......busy week so I had to get a fix even if a couple hours......They lack color in the cold water right now but decent size for 39 degree water around here Tooty.....
Congrats Jeffrey for getting out when most the rest of can't ..... Love that little bit of purple on the gills upper back buddy !
not even the threat of bad weather keeps Jeff from fishing!! way to go !!
