Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

My current project is the damsel fly. I've read so much about them lately, that I'm starting to feel like an entomologist!
This is just a trial, which proved several points to me:
1. Dub with marabou (thanks Tooty)
2. Apply the legs differently.
3. Keep the body sparse, not chunky.

Thanks, Mike.
I'm gonna try and squeeze in some water time this weekend. I'll try these and my
Humbug ties.
Actually, I've been tying so many different things lately that I couldn't try them all!

Good info, Allen. You are a fountain of knowledge.

Honestly, I need a Dry Suit, but can't afford it.  The rule of thumb for Winter Kayaking is that you need to add the water temp and air temp together.  If the sum of the two does NOT go over 120, you need a dry suit.

Wow!

Heck no!  Winter-time kayaking is NO COTTON!  Some kind of artificial fiber pants and socks, neoprene waders, fleece pullover (or two), and a nylon outer shell.

And that's ONLY on the decent-weather days, at the local lake where I can immediately go up the creek where the trout hang out.

The Ranch Wear stuff is for bank-fishing.

This is going to be your kayak'ing outfit, Allen?

In years past, if I went fishing in Winter, I didn't stay out long, before it got to cold for me.  The past couple of years have seen really mild winters here in Okieland, and I've been fishing through the Winter.

Just as Winter ended this year, I got some heavy-duty Ranch Wear coat and bib-overall combination, that in combination with some water-proof, insulated knee-high boots, should keep me roasty-toasty this coming winter.  Now I just have to be able to catch some catfish bait.

Dick, I haven't seen a frozen lake in 12 years.
First thing, I'd need to get the car stuck in a ditch...just to get that out of the way.

Then we could drill some holes and start fishing!
