Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

These are the most common sold Tooty....My preference is the open one in the center....easier to use when you're on the fish.....you do experience a few escapees with this style.....

I use the one in the center too. I found a coffee can lid that fits it so a don't loose many when I turn it over. I will turn it over at least once a trip.

Here's some of the most common Kelly.......I use the one in the middle.........I cut a small potato up in to segments and place them on the bottom so the crickets can pull moisture from them........heat is your enemy............keep them out of the direct sun and store in a cool location to maximize life........they will dehydrate in a couple days without some moisture source.......just a few things that work for me....

Good advice LOFR.....funny you mention the birds...........I was set up for a trip with ample crickets a couple Summers ago.....I had left my garage door open on a mild day and the crickets were just staged right inside the door on the slab.......While periodically checking on my boat battery charging, I noticed a Mockingbird sitting on my boat seat in the garage. Every time I came out for a couple hours this bird was there.....I finally connected the dots when one of my cricket cages was nearly empty!

Hey , that looks like part of my collection,I also have red ones and green ones. I also have had problems with the bottom coming off  on the tubes but I have solved that problem, now I keep a small roll of electrical tape  in my vest that I tape the bottoms of the tubes on and no more loose crickets, simple fix. As for the cricket bucket, I have a couple that I rarely use because my big fat paws barely fit  the opening, tight squeeze, I do use them to keep my unused crickets in that are left over from a trip and if I'm trying to save them for a trip to the pond at the park in the next couple of days. A piece of potato in there with them keeps them fresh but make shure you cover the opening ,not because they will get out but because I have had birds go through the opening and ate everyone of the crickets.    LOFR

All you need is two David and you've got tunes all night!

My favorite stunt is to throw a couple tubes of crickets into the car of newlyweds! Same effect as bugs in your waders.

Someone needs to make a narrower version of the middle one, for us float tubers.  That big one barely fits into my unzipped side pocket.  I had the tall skinny one on my float tube and the bottom came off without me knowing about it.   Well for a while... just until I felt crickets down inside my waders.  Had them all over me in fact!  But I kept fishing!

In a boat, I'd like the center one. As Jeff suggests, it is the ticket. However, when hiking the river trails, I go with the one on the right. It clips to my vest and is no worry, ready when I need it.
