Good deal Kelly.....second only to Spring, the Fall period can be some of best fishing in any area.......so that could be a good time to get an idea of what your fishing options will be.....check in with the local bait shops and check out the boat ramps for a few additional clues........I'm happy for you and let us know how it's going with the new fishing holes!
Where we are going to live in southern Illinois, DuQuoin the surrounding lakes are all man made. Either they are huge reservoirs or strip mining and there are lots of them. Relatively deep with sharp dropping backs on the strip mining lakes and reservoirs are your typical makeup. Lots of crappie and bluegill, plus bass and channel cats. This is hilly country there so lots of miles of shoreline.
Since our house down there is in the middle of a remodel job it won't be ready for about a month plus so will be renting. That means lots of items will be in storage for awhile. But hope to get out fishing as soon as I can get everything out of my boat-its acting like storage shelves at this time. :) July and August are really hot there but the fall should be really nice. Expect to be doing a lot of fall fishing well into Dec/Jan, I hope. Long after we'd be iced up in northern Wisconsin.
We get five months out of the year with surface temperatures of 60 to 80 degrees and the fishing is excellent during these periods........Our bluegill are spawning on all thirteen rivers I fish.......this particular river has large shallow oxbow flats that warm up very quickly......the fish leave for the creeks when the water is sustained above 85 in these regions........I'm not familiar with the southern Illinois area but like you stated I'm sure it's quite a bit different.........The way the full moons set up this Summer we are in for an amazing bluegill season this year........
Our temps here in northern Wisconsin are mid 60's. Expect them to be much warmer at our new home in southern Illinois.
Is that too warm, just right, spawn, post spawn? I need to learn a whole new latitude.
