Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

The longnose gar is present throughout the Albemarle estuary with some alligator gar as well…..when I say everything will take a cricket…I mean everything

Yes…..especially large bass…I always hope to grab a picture and release but I want to hold it….not much on long distance release as Bill Dance would call it…😂……additionally with the sound and rivers being brackish, we have a ton of barnacles on cypress trees, lay downs, docks and bulkheads…..recently Joe hooked something big under a shallow dock, the fish quickly wrapped a piling and the line snapped so twelve isn’t always enough….when the pros fished a local river last month, most shifted to braid or upsized their mono after losing fish to cut line….in the tannic water I see no negative impact using heavier line so its second nature to me……thanks for the question John…

I guess you fish 12 # test for Gills because of this possibility!

Thanks John…this was a train wreck on light tackle……I was fishing a foot deep on a shallow sand bar……I catch several nice gills back to back…..so I was eager to send another cricket in there……the gills slammed it and the float plunged, I saw my float moving but never went under…..set the hook and a hell of a commotion ensued……with twelve pound test I did manage to get it in but by myself so no good pics out of the water……a spectator boat cheered me on for the five minute battle…..happens about a dozen times every year…….
