I agree Tony, slow steady retrieve has worked best for me . The wind picked up just after this and I went to another spot that the wind was blowing to and action was good !  I didn't need to impart much action except for a pop of the float .

I find that calm water slip floating requires movement on the hook...either live bait, or tipped with something that has a little wiggle to it. Not as important when the wind is moving the jig around.

Lot's a high pressure is what's in my water :p California has well over 30 million people and most of the state is pretty dry.

Maybe, but on family vacations in my youth I had the opportunity to fish waters in the midwest and south and I gotta tell ya, I caught far more fish, with far less effort, in waters I'd never seen before than I ido n my home waters in SoCal :)

I don't know about that JB but we all make do with what we have .Grass is always greener on the other side of the fence ,in perception at least sometimes.

Boy, when the wind picked up the slip float WAS the ticket so I combined the Tandem rig /Slip Float/ Mussel bits and scored again when the fishing was off at the first  spot. Turned a good day into a better day .

What a beautiful BoW! SoCal's got the weather (it's the second week of November and I'm still wearing shorts and flipflops every day) but the water in the midwest, east, and south sure does make me think you guys might have the better end of the deal :-)
