Aside from the shape of the flap, I don't see any Longear in there. I'm going with male Bluegill.

i thought it was just a regular gill too, but i'm not sure either. i'm no identification expert, when i think i know what a species is, i find out i'm off. lol

Im no expert- it looks like a 'generic' sunfish to me.
Which is a good thing.

a guy told me this is a longear sunfish, now that l look at it, it might have a few features of a longear but not very distinct. What do you all think?
