600 of them are in the yard, my plant pots, and compost bins outside..hope they don't croak due to the 100°F+ heat. I make sure I designated cool spots for them to thrive. But birds are also an issue here.

Comment by Leo Nguyen on September 20, 2012 at 1:55pm: Zach, Alabama Jumpers are twice as long as the Euro or Canadian crawlers, and nearly twice as large in girth. They are more native to the hot and dry environment, and still do well in the tropical environment. My backyard is filled with them now, used for making my soil a bit more fertile. A small handful are in my arid compost bin used for breeding and fishing.

These worms are known for they're ability to wiggle like a ballistic missile out of hell. They literally jump off the ground when you touch them just to get away. Violent little buggers. They gave off the scent that fish will go crazy for them, much better than Canadian and Euro crawlers, when the segments are cut from their bodies. Smell your hands after you handle them and you'll understand what I mean. Add a bit of garlic powder to the soil and food sources they consume, and they stink up even more in the water..well, for us, it's a pleasant garlic scent.

I normally fish for trout and bass using these worms, and they're notorious when it comes to catfish. They are a great source of protein load for fish that forage for tubifex worms.

Comment by Leo Nguyen on September 20, 2012 at 12:21pm: Get yourself some Alabama Jumpers. Trust me..easy to raise in your garden, and live year round without any issue. They are close to three times the size of the Canadian crawlers.

Comment by Zach Pierce on September 20, 2012 at 7:44am: I use these for BG, GSF, HBG and not have a problem. The other worms I am sure are great bait but I need to get my eyes checked before trying to use them again, pretty hard for me to string them on the hook.

I like night crawlers because I can catch multiple fish on a little piece of worm. Plus never know when the LMB or CC decides he has had enough and bets the BG to the bait. That is always a nice surprise. Or broken line in my wife's case.
