My son Matt and I enjoyed our long-awaited father/son trip to Richmond Mill last week. Fish on my right went 2.02 pounds and took one of my sparkle braid jigs with a worm chunk.

Thanks Jim.
When would say is the best time of year to fish Richmond Mill? From the pics, looks like anytime is a good time. But what time of year have you had the most success, with size and quantity of fish? What is the average number of gills you catch in a day of fishing there?

Greg...water temps varied from 55 to 60 F depending where we were at and how much sunlight was on the exposed shallow areas throughout the afternoon hours. Air temps were in the low 30's both mornings we fished, and surprisingly that was when we caught a number of our biggest bluegills.

Wow!
Really nice fish & a wonderful picture. Sounds like you and your son had a great time. Nothing like spending time on the water with your son.
What was the water temp.?

Those are some great fish Jim, and you took the big boat out. I love that boat.

I would use freshwater shrimp and leech on float at little deeper than most people fish...... 3lbs plus 'gills!

A huge misconception.......a 3wt fly rod would easily handle those outstanding fish Jim. I can't remember the last time I used anything bigger than a 3wt hunting crackers, crappier and even white bass

Brian, I know that several guys fish exclusively with fly tackle for these brutes. That's one of my goals for 2011; to get to Richmond Mill with a fly rod.

Ever use a fly rod on that body of water? You'd have to go with at least a 5 weight, maybe heavier, for those beasts!
