To me, that fish suggests having a rough childhood....as in not enough to eat. A fish's eyes will grow at a fairly constant rate, even in a situation where the fish are 'stunted'... a big eyed fish, (not including injuries or parasites) is usually an old fish with not much further growth potential. I think that fish is ready for the frying pan.
I hope it translates into growth potential Jim, but I don't know if it's possibly an adaptation to the dark water conditions they're living in......I have noticed the bigger eyes on several of the fish caught today.....
That fish seems to be proportionally long, with most of the length from the soft dorsal fin back to the tail.
Also...Jeffrey, these fish seem to have huge eyes compared to some other gills I have seen on this site. Any thoughts on that?
