Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Caught this bad boy on my 2wt glass rod. Definitely caught me by surprise when my drag went crazy

I couldn't be doing all that smiling... Id'a sh!t my pants, and it's hard to grin much when that happens.

Course we wanna know - what fly did you have on?

Very nice, I've caught a few on my 4 wt, but only up to about 6 pounds.

I know that when he got close he went straight to the bottom, at that point for me I was begging him not to break my rod because my rod had the biggest bend I have ever seen in it ,yes i was talking to him , but I finally got him in the boat, had to fold him over to get him into the ice chest, my Dad  caught an 18 pounder on a fly rod, I know now that if you are pulling the bluegill in  and they suddenly turn off is because a big catfish is raiding their nest or chasing them off.   Congrat on your fish !     LOFR

Sweet Jeebus, lookit that!!!

That, is a NICE catfish!  And on a 2wt?!?!?!?!  Amazing!  What kind of bug did it eat?

Haha dang, 14 lbs is a big catfish! The rod held up beautifully and he ran me like crazy, a few times I was surprised the rod didn't snap with the vicious bends the cat was putting in the rod. Chris Kowalski had to hold on to my arm and pull me back up so we could land him and I wouldn't go into the deep abyss lol your right when you say I won't forget this one!
