A lot of locals in this region of the country fish Coppernose/Redear solely on the bottom tight lining....There is a little more tidal movement here and the belief is the fish hug the bottom during these "moving water" events. I certainly refuse to argue the logic based on the stringers I have personally witnessed....
One of the fattest gills I've ever seen and on an ultra light or tele it would have been a battle I'll bet........
This is a brute from one of my South Carolina honey holes.....first fished it in the Summer of 1983.....This is a location where you can catch double digit 10" plus Coppernose in a single trip.....I caught a 30 gill stringer here in 1984 that weighed 39.3 pounds.......many of the fish that day were in the 9" class but thick as the Yellow Pages!
