Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Does anyone use these. I have 3. The first 2 I bought probably 20 years ago at the K Mart. I picked up the last one at Lunker's in Michigan 10 years ago. Never been used. They seem to last forever.

they are great.i have several of these.not all that brand.they hold the flies well and keep the hooks from rusting.i just dont use them much as i have a habit of losing stuff when i,m fishing.find some fish and change flies then move on and leave the box on a stump or something.these are not easily replaceable so i mostly use cheap plastic boxes these days.i plan on filling them with flies i tie and stashing them for when i'm gone.maybe my kids will get a kick out of them

same makers of my fly reels to!! the old perrine automatic reels were made to last a lifetime!!  I think they stopped making the reels in around 1968!!!

These are not actually mine, Dick; theyre Mike's.

Mine have been put in away and I don't use them. I make MY fly wallets from foam and old eyeglass cases.

My name is McScruff, and I'm Frugal.

The worst thing about the metal jobs in my opinion has to do with temperature....those suckers get COLD in the wintertime.

A great fine David and with loads of ice flies on top of that. Be careful you know how that South Carolina ice can be.

I have a couple that are as old as I am, literally.

I inherited them from my dad.

When I first discovered them in his stuff, they had little trout flies (#16-18) dangling from the hook keepers. The feathers and any fur had long since turned to dust, but the chenille bits were still intact.

SO they do last a long time.

Having used both these and the new types, I can say I prefer the newer foam keeper style to these metal jobs. Most of the better new generation boxes are also waterproof, if you're into that.

Six of one, half dozen of the other.

Oops....Mike beat me to it!

And not just fly fishing nuts.....hardcore ice anglers use them to store jigs in. I use Bug Luggage brand cases myself.

Well I'm not a fly fisherman. I started using them when I decided that keeping my ice fishing lures in an old 35mm film canister wasn't the best thing to do :).

I think every serious fly fishing nut has at least one of them.
