Bluegill - Big Bluegill

Do you love big bluegill?

Just like their name suggests......this fish was mainly head and hit three pounds on a cheap spring scale.....didn't get a length but I estimated it to be 18 to 20 just a very skinny fish...........

I was so impressed with the bullhead that kid brought over, I took a pic...which I can no longer find.
Damn "information avalanche!"

Caught one about like that two seasons back. My sons friends caught one bigger, bringing it over for me to examine. Possibly the biggest one I've ever seen.

Nice fish!

Around here, most Bullheads top out at 8", maybe 9".  I'm not sure why they don't get any bigger.  In smaller waters, they tend to overpopulate and get stunted; in bigger waters, I think the Flatheads and possibly Blue Catfish target them for extermination.  I've actually heard that Flatheads will kill Bullheads, not so much to eat them, but to kill off egg-poachers.  Supposedly, Bullheads will rob Flathead nests.
