Depends on the lake...some small lakes have the predator base to keep perch populations in check, especially shallow bodies of water that have bass and pickerel. White perch seem to flourish in larger, deeper bodies of water where they can roam in large schools and are less affected by the ambush-style predators. Stripers and hybrid stripers can put a hurtin on white perch populations and result, in time, a quality fishery for both species on a 'preffered-size' basis.

They taste great, so I eat 'em!

Then I guess its time to keep some white Perch and help my Bluegill friends out in my home lake.

I'll do the white perch gig when other panfish are in short number. Most lakes where I have seen the perch intrude have had negative effects on the existing bluegill populations.

They sure do resemble White Bass, and you actually eat them. LOL That will save the Bluegill population!!!!!!!!
